My name is Nicole Phung. The River Connection is a project born from my miscarriage experience in August 2021. River is the name my husband and I gave to the sweet soul we lost, after confirming both spiritually and genetically that she was a girl. Although the grief of loss is heavy and ongoing, it also ignited a fire in me to learn more about pregnancy, loss, and motherhood, and the ways that different women experience them.
What I discovered was that I had to search for the support and community that I was looking for while deep in the darkness following my miscarriage. The reality of miscarriage seemed to be a secret held behind closed doors that only open once you’ve “joined the club.” Unfortunately this means that when you’re in the thick of it, you’re left to learn the harsh reality of pregnancy loss alone.
Why is it that women suffer through these losses alone with so many others have experienced miscarriage?
Why is it that no one tells you that what the doctors or the internet tells you to expect isn’t the whole story?
Why is it that society pushes our lost children under the shrouds of secrecy and shame?
Your miscarriage matters.
The River Connection is a collection of your miscarriage stories, compiled for women wading through the waters of grief after loss.
River, the soul that I carried and lost, is what connects me to you. Welcome to The River Connection, where miscarriage stories are shared to demystify the experience of miscarriage and to find community with other women.
If you are considering sharing your story (even if you’re unsure!), please consider connecting with me to share your story.
Though what brings us together is devastating, our connection and our stories will create a space for women to feel seen and supported through their experience with miscarriage.
